RELIGION
Religion is one of the four R's that we teach. The text we use is from Harcourt Brace We use this text from K-6. Along with the text we use the Bible - the Good News version. Our students also plan Liturgies two times a week. The upper grades on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week and the lower grades on Thursday and Friday. They do the readings, singing, gifts and petitions. We use music from CD's, at times, we have guitar, and sometimes piano or organ. A part of our Religion is also the outreach things we do , the plays we give, and skits that the students give.
LANGUAGE ARTS
We use the Scott Foresman Reading Series from 1-6. Along with that we use the Scott Foresman Series for our English grammer. Our upper grade teachers have also been trained in the Six Traits of Writing which they incorporate into the Curriculum. Each year our students participate in the Annual District Spelling contest. We send one student from fifth grade and one from sixth grade. Spelling is an important part of our Curriculum.
MATH PROGRAM
We are using the Math Renissance Program from grades 1-6. This program contains mini lessons and then the students are on their individual level. It works out very well as those that are able to do more are given more. There is also a follow up page for them to do when they need more practice for a particular objective. The teacher sees immediately where their problems are and can help them. They also get a handout and results for each student. In the fifth and sixth grade we also added a text that they can take home so parents can help them with the more difficult problems.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We use the McGraw Hill Series for Social Studies. Our Curriculum is cycled in all subjects because we have double grades. Students use the internet for their projects and for information We also have CD?s which contain the Encyclopedia. We try to give them a chance to learn how to get information from many different sources.
SCIENCE
We use the Scott Foresman Series for Science. Again, our Curriculum is cycled so that all of the standards and topics are coverec in the two year cycle. Health is a part of the Curriculum and the teachers use various resources for the program.
ART - MUSIC - PHYSICAL EDUCATION
These three subjects are taught by teachers from the Merose Public School District.
They follow the Curriculum of the Melrose District which are patterned after the standards of each subject. Part of the referrendum that was that these three subjects would be taught by the District. They are taught right in our own building which saves time rather than having all the students bussed over to the Public School which is about 8-10 miles away from the Public School. |
